Scholarship applications for spring 2021 at Hill College are now open. The deadline to apply is Nov. 15.

Students can apply online at www.hillcollege.edu. Click the ‘Apply Now’ link at the top of the home page and then choose ‘Scholarships’ from the dropdown menu.

The basic eligibility requirement for students is a 2.5 GPA, whether applying from high school, transferring from another institution or currently enrolled at Hill College. High school and transfer students interested in attending Hill College will have the option to complete the scholarship application after applying for admission.

Once submitted, the college’s scholarship application system will auto-match students with available scholarships that meet criteria provided by the student on the general application, which students can view when they log into the system to monitor the status of their application.

Available scholarships vary in dollar amount, and director of student information services, Kathleen Pustejovsky, said any student interested in attending Hill College in the spring should apply for every scholarship no matter how much it awards.

“Some scholarships may be smaller dollar amounts, but what students don’t realize is that they could receive two or three of those, which can add up,” she said. “Every bit of money helps, so students shouldn’t shy away from any scholarship they could be eligible for.”

Pustejovsky also encourages students to not be discouraged from applying for scholarships that require an essay or an explanation as to why they should be awarded the scholarship.

“A scholarship application is your opportunity to brag on yourself and tell us what you do no matter what it is,” said Pustejovsky. “Whether you’re involved in athletics or community activities, or even if you’re not, just tell us your story. Because nine times out of 10 there’s money left on the table waiting to be shared with someone simply because no one applied.”

Pustejovsky said students should also complete the Free Application for Financial Student Aid (FAFSA), which is the application the US Department of Education uses to determine a student’s eligibility for need-based federal financial aid for college.

“Students should complete the FAFSA even if they think they may not qualify for aid,” she said. “They may qualify for state grants or other financial assistance institutions have to offer such as the work-study program.”

Students who are selected to receive scholarships will be notified about their award amount prior to having to make a payment for the spring semester.

For assistance or more information, students can contact Hill College’s scholarship coordinator Amy Kinsey at 254-659-7634 or scholarships@hillcollege.edu.
